Several Pad Weights Match capacity to the task
Pack and Pallet Supply For occasional or regular use

Which Chemical Absorbent Pad Weight Do You Need?

Pad weight affects thickness, handling and the amount of liquid each sheet can retain. Choose according to the expected spill volume and how the pad will be used.

Lightweight Pads

Economical coverage and frequent replacement

A practical option for smaller spills, light contamination and situations where pads are changed regularly during cleaning or maintenance work.

  • Useful for minor drips and splashes
  • Good coverage from a larger pack quantity
  • Easy to distribute around the workplace
  • Suitable for routine spill stations

Medium-Weight Pads

Balanced capacity, handling and economy

A versatile general spill-response choice where more capacity is needed than a lightweight pad provides, without automatically moving to the thickest grade.

  • Suitable for moderate spills and leaks
  • Useful for everyday industrial response
  • Balances absorbency and pack economy
  • Convenient for wiping and recovery

Heavyweight Pads

Greater local capacity for demanding spills

Thicker pads for concentrated pools, persistent leaks and applications where each sheet needs to hold more liquid before it is removed and replaced.

  • Greater absorbency per individual pad
  • Useful beneath leaking equipment
  • Suitable for deeper or concentrated liquid
  • Reduces the number of sheets needed

What Are Chemical Absorbent Pads?

Chemical absorbent pads are sheets of specialist absorbent material used to recover hazardous liquid from floors, benches, machinery and other workplace surfaces. Depending on the individual product and confirmed compatibility, they may be used with acids, alkalis, solvents, coolants, laboratory reagents and water-based process liquids.

The pads are normally yellow so they can be distinguished quickly from white oil-only absorbents and grey general-purpose absorbents. This visual identification can help personnel select the intended spill-response material during an incident.

Pads provide broad surface contact and can be placed directly onto contained liquid, used to wipe contaminated surfaces or positioned beneath a persistent drip. For a spreading spill, socks or booms should normally be used first to create a perimeter before pads are applied within the contained area.

How to Use Chemical Absorbent Pads

Always follow the workplace spill procedure and the Safety Data Sheet for the substance involved.

Assess the hazard

Identify the liquid where possible, isolate the area and wear the personal protective equipment required by the risk assessment.

Control the source

Where trained and safe to do so, stop or reduce the leak before attempting to recover the escaped liquid.

Contain the spill

Prevent the liquid spreading towards doors, drains or work areas. Use compatible absorbent socks where a perimeter is required.

Apply and replace pads

Place pads onto the contained liquid, allow them to absorb and replace them as required. Dispose of used material according to the absorbed substance.

Chemical Pad Weight Comparison

This guide provides a practical starting point. Always check the stated pad and pack sorbency on the individual product page.

Pad grade Most suitable for Principal advantage Typical usage pattern
Lightweight Minor spills, surface wiping and light contamination Economical coverage and higher sheet quantities Use several sheets and replace them frequently
Medium-weight Routine industrial leaks and moderate spills Balanced handling, capacity and cost General-purpose chemical spill response
Heavyweight Concentrated pools and persistent leakage Greater liquid retention per individual pad Use fewer, thicker sheets in high-demand areas

Confirm Compatibility Before Using Chemical Pads

No absorbent pad should be assumed to be suitable for every substance. Check the chemical’s Safety Data Sheet, the product information and your workplace risk assessment before use.

The absorbent does not make the chemical harmless. Used pads may retain the hazards of the liquid absorbed and should be handled, stored and disposed of accordingly. Obtain specialist assistance where a spill exceeds the training or safe capabilities of the personnel present.

Unsure Which Pad Weight or Pack Size to Choose?
