What Are Chemical Absorbent Socks?

Chemical absorbent socks are flexible tubular barriers filled with specialist absorbent material. They are placed around a leak or spill to reduce further movement and create a defined area in which the liquid can be recovered.

Their flexible construction allows them to follow the shape of machinery, containers, walls and uneven workplace layouts. This makes them particularly useful where a rigid barrier would leave gaps through which liquid could escape.

Chemical socks are normally yellow so they can be distinguished quickly from white oil-only absorbents and grey general-purpose products. Depending on the individual product and confirmed compatibility, they may be suitable for many acids, alkalis, solvents, coolants and water-based process liquids.

Socks are primarily containment products. Once the spill is surrounded, compatible pads, rolls or pillows can be placed within the perimeter to recover the pooled liquid.
